THE GOLDFIELDS.
TAIRUA MONARCH. The mine manager reports: —"The battery has run l'-H) hours, completing the parcel from No. 2 lode, resulting in the return of thirty-two ozs. of squeezed amalgam, from the plates from forty-five tons of ore. This lode, which has been broken out its whole width 4ft. bin., contains a large portion of country rocks. When resuming work on this lode 1 intend to keep the quartz as clean as possible, and anticipate an appreciable improvement in the return. S;nc? the late flood the head of the water race is causing a little trouble, but I hope to have the stamps going on th# parcel from No. 3 reef in the course of a day or two. Stoping is still being carried out on the latter reef. The whole of the quartz broken by the late manager has now been treated."
