The weather conditions were perfect, and the track was nt excellent order, but despite this there was a general impression that the clocks would oea-i too horse, and odds were freely iaid in mis | direction. Trainer N. L. l*rice warmed the worse up with u good threequarter pace spin, while the cincaiatugraph ptopie operated, and almost before rue public were ready for the dash he was off on his mission. He cast his first quarter In ol Stosoc, but tuunlng out of the siraight In the second quarter he "wobbled'' slightly, and his driver had to steady him. The haif mile was left behind in laiiu. i l-ssec, and as his pacer was slill going strong. The horse who was to pick him up at the haif mile held off. At the six-furlong post thi> first pacer strapped, and the reserve pacer paced the horse up badly. Nevertheless the third quarter showed lmin. 36 2-osecs., and u victory was loudly proclaimed. The ; pacer was working indifferently, but with- I out putting a foot wrong the handsome horse, finishing gamely, ran home a winner In 2mtn. 8 3-sseoK.. thus beating the record of amln. usee, put up by his sire RibboDwood in the memorable match with Fritz. The three timekeepers were unanimous In their return, and they were carefully checked by a large number of private watches, who were all wiLhln a tick of the official verdict. The victory was warmly applauded, and Mr. Duncan was congratulated on all hands on the success of his champion. King Cole, who Is a seven-year-old horse by Ribbon wood-Kola Nut, now holds both the mile and tbe two-mile records for Australasia. The performnnco was full of merit, apart from the time, as he started from the bark mark with a field of seven good horses out in fro<nt of him. One Ivy one he cut his rivals down, and he finished up by winning handsomely in time which was easily a record for Australasia, the neat best being 4min. Kosors., recorded t-y Wild wood. Junior. In ihe New Zealand Cup last November. King Cole thus earned the right to the title of the champion harness horse of the Dominion, and he put the seal on that fame this morning.
