DEVONPORT BOROUGH COUNCIL

The ordinary meeting of the Devonport Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers, Devonport, last uignt, when there were present: The .Mayor (Mr Wm. Hundley), Messrs A. J. Tapper, D. W. McLeun, L. Gannon, T. VV. crunch, T. C«msidiue, A. U. Quartley, and W. Parsons.

Cheltenham Ueach.—A letter was received from Mr J. Allen la member of the Council) protesting against the destruction of Cheltenham Beach iv removing shell and sand from the beach, which he described as being the greatest piece of vandalism he had known for 50 years. Owing to the absence of Mr Allen, consideration of the letter was deferred.

Water Supply.—A communication was received from Messrs ,T. Seymour anil others C-'-|nplainlng of unclean water coinjnj; from the taps owing to the dirty condition of the water mains, and also asking thu Council to remedy the state of the road in Beaconsflelil-stieet. The matters were referred to the Streets and Works Committee for consideration ana report. Burgess-road.—A complaint from Messrs J. Blight and others regal-dins the bad state of the eastern end of Bnrgess-road was referred to the Streets aud Works Committee for report.

Vauxball-roart. -In reply to a leiter from Mr E. D. Benjamin requestinK that the pathway in Vaushall-road be repaired, it was resolved to Rive the matter early attention.

Waltemata Court Delegates.—Mi- J. C. Webster wrote asking for permission for the Waitemata District Court Committee to hold a meeting in the Council Chambers. It was resolved to allow the committee to use the room free of cost.

Domain Trees.-It was resolved to "top" the trees in tho Domain along Stanlevstreet, as tho shade cast by the trees greativ interferes with the play of cricketers, and It was deemed advisable to cut them at this season of the year.

Rangitoto.—lt was decided to construct two new water cisterns on Rangitoto Island for the convenience of excursionists, and the Domain F.narrl resolved to pnv a visit to the island at an early date with a view to considering other improvements which may be desirable.

Building Permits. — One permit was granted for a new dwelling, and one for alterations and additions. Accounts. following accounts were passed for payment:—General isocount, £2">3 10/4; waterworks account, £114 6/S; Domain Board. £~>.
