CORRESPONDENCE.

CITIZENS' LEAGUE ORGANISERS. ('l'd the Editor.) Sir, —I notice a letter signed Thos. Walsh, Secretary (Labour party), in your issue of last evening. I regret that he should have made these wild, statements without having first made reasonably sure of hia facts. In the first place everybody who is at all in touch with matters political knows that the Government electoral census is not to be taken until July 9th, so thait, there being no Government census takers yet in the field in the city, Mr. Walsh, as secretary of a political body, should, not be in any doubt as to whether 'the men (complained or?) are State employed or otherwise. So far as the Citizens' League is concerned I have made inquiries from my assistant organisers, and not one of them has at any time allowed the public whom 'they come in contact with to be in doubc as to who they were or whence they cane; indeed did they do so they would be but defeating their own ends, which are to increase the League's membership and awaken the citizens to a sense of their civic responsibilities. It would have but common courtesy had Mr. Walsh communicated his complaint to mc before rushing into print, but evidently to arrive at the truth is not his first intention. The imagined opportunity of getting a "guerilla" shot at the League was -not to be missed, and sincerity does not appear to be the spirit of his letter. He states thai it is some of the members, of the Auckland branch of the Labour party who have complained about this matter to his executive, and so far that is their affair; but when he goes on to invite the general public to communicate similar complaints to his party it borders rather on the ridiculous, and I feel sure the citizens do not require to be told the right course to follow in such cases. As set forth in the leaflet which the Citizens' League organisers are distributincr, my office is m the ilutual Life Buildings, 04, Queenstreet, and any communications forwarded to mc there Trill receive prompt attention.—l am, etc., R. A. ARMSTRONG, Secretary Citizens' League.
