(Received 9.50 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. The Licenses Reduction Board is closing even further hotels in Melbourne. Since | he Board was created 502 hotels have j >een closed, and compensation amounting ,o £194,989 paid. The chairman made a :omparison of the system with local iption, and pointed out that in a similar leriod under the latter system New South Wales had closed 338 hotels. He estimated that by 1914 Victoria would close SO and New' South Wales 425. Under local option there was a tendency m overstocked districts to vote continuance.
