INDUSTRIAL AGREEMENTS.
TEE KEW DEFINITION. (Received 9.15 a.m.) i SYDNEY, this day. Mr. Mitchell, general secretary of the "Sngine-drivers and Firemen's Associa- ] ion, referring to the High Court judgnent regarding the registration under tbe L'ommonwealth Arbitration Act, asked he Federal Government to amend the Vet in order to overcome the difficulty ireated, and to clearly define the meaning jf industry. The judgment renders invalid a large number of industrial agreements, and if they are interfered with trouble will ensue. Although they were opposed to a strike, that was the only method left if deprived of the right of arbitration. It was possible for the Gov-ernor-General to proclaim such an association as his an organisation under the Act. If that were done the trouble would be averted. Referring to the different Courts, Ik stated that it cost £100 less to obtain an award of tbe Federal Court covering tbt whole of Australia, than of the Stati Court for the State only.
