(Before Messrs. C- H. -Palmer and J. •Rowntree, J.P.'s.) THE DRUNKARDS. - Richard Chas. Dawes, before the Court on the 6th inst.,. made another appear-ance-and was let off with a 5/ fine. Two first offenders were fined the amqunti of their-bail, £1. -•-•-■• • ■ THEFT OF A BAG. A young man named Michael Mulcahv pleaded not guilty-to a charge M having stolen a leather bag and a pack of cards, valued at 3/, the property of Gerald Albert Byrne. The evidence was that complainant went' into an hotel and -put- hia bag down. Thus was stolen, it was alleged, by accused, a socman. After hearing the evidence the - rich-fined accused £1; in default 24 hours' imprisonment. INDECENCY. . Nicholas Prendergast, charged with committing an indecent' act in Wellesleystreet West at 6.30 p.m. yesterday, was -fined- £ 1 and costs, in default 48 hours. LANGUAGE AND OBSTRUCTION. Wm. Maguire, a fireman belonging to the Matafua, in company with a number of others, was creating considerable dis turbance in Victoria-street shortly aiter 10 o'clock last evening, and on the interference of Detectives Cox and Sweeney made use of an obscene expression. He was fined £2 or 48 hours. Wm. Redshaw, another fireman, was charged with obstructing the officers while they were taking Maguire into custody, and endeavouring to rescue the latter. £1 or 'IA hours was the penalty. ALLEGED FALSE PRETENCES. A remand for eight days was granted in the.case of Lionel John Melva (with several aliases), charged •with having obtained £3 from Walter Little at New Plymouth on April 24, by means of a valueless cheque. Robert Barker, charged with similar offences at Auckland and Hamilton on March 11 and 12 respectively, was remanded for a week. MISCELLANEOUS. John Lynch pleaded not guilty to a charge that he was an idle and disorderly person, in that he had insufficient means of support. The_ case was remanded until Monday. Ernest Bake-sgpleaded guilty to allowing a horse to wander in the Great North-road, and was fined 5/.
Wm. Jas. Grevatt was fined 10/ an! costs for leaving a quantity-of building material in Albert-street without sufficient light.
