The Council of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society met last night. Present: Messrs. W. _ Hazard (ln tbe chair), i. <iillett, H. Wade, and B. Soakes. Importation ot Game.—The Hobson Society, wrote, suggesting that .the acclimatisation societies should combine to work with the Government for the importation of game suitable for the various districts. If each society contributed £100 or f2OO, and paid in £50 or £100 a year, a central hatchery or farm could .be run practically on co-operative I lines.—lt was decided that as the matter ! will 'be subject for discussion at the annual conference at. Wellington, no action toe taken for the present. | Shooting Game for Sale.—The Whangarei Society wrote, complaining that some persons were shooting game for sale, and that in certain cases acclimatisation birds were •being shot for Auckland hotels.—The Council recognised that the abuse existed, and ' decided to reply that 'the Society was doing ! all it could in the matter. ■■"No Man's Land."—The Chairman stated that It was desirable that the Council should move in the direction of securing control of a portion of the King Country, | which he described as "No Man's Land" Jt took in Kakahi, Mannnui, Periaka, and j was a sort of poachers' paradise.
