WRESTLING.
POWER DEFEATS WAVACE. At 3lr. V. Cliff's gymnasium, Pa'rnell, last evening, a match for the featherweight wrestling championship of New Zealand, between Derm Tower, the present holder, and J. Savage (challenger) took place. There was a good atten-daiK-e. Mr. Pluggo officiated as referee, and Air. l'\ Burns, as timekeeper. The nia'U-h, which was won by Tower, was not an interesting one. Savage failing to show anything near championship form, and in, the tirst bout out of the OSmin. Slsccs. the men were on the mat Savage was on the defensive for fully an hour, making absolutely no attempt to turn defence into attack. This left Tower with practically all the work, and he narrowly minsed scoring a fall on several occasions. Savage getting out of difficulty several times through the assistance of the wall at the back of 'the stage, the mat being altogether too small." Eventually, however, after a dreary exhibition of fiSmin. 51seca., Power got a tree hold and secured first fall. After a spell of five minutes the pair got into holds again, and this time Power got to work quickly, and securing a double Nelson, forced Savage to the mat and won the match, the bout only lasting 7min. 2secs. A challenge to the winner was issued on behalf of Ilebley. In addition exhibitions were given by Messrs. Fulton and Wilding; Raynes and Dean: Leslie and Jonas; and Fulton and a pupil, while an exhibition of jiu-jitsu was also given.
