IRONMASTERS' RECOMMENDA? TIONS. A PROHIBITIVE TARIFF REQUIRED. (By Telegraph.—(Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. A conference of ironmasters was held here to-day to discuss the question of im-' posing a duty of 33 l-3rd per cent on such articles as can be made in Nets; Zealand. It was reported that since the conference held in Dunedin last February, information had been gathered from different sources, and it was hoped the Government would grant their Tequest. One speaker urged that the only way to do anything was by howling, and howling continuously. It was no use going to the Government. The deputation would be politely received and told that the matter would be looked into, but nothing would be done. Ultimately a resolution "was adopted deciding to accept the assistance of the labour unions in a joint effort to obtain adequate protection for the industry. I A deputation will wait on the Minister for Customs at 4 o'clock this afternoon.
