A PREVIOUS ATTEMPT.

KEEPING HER PROMISE. (Received 9.30 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. Mrs. Russell attempted suicide two years ago by throwing herself into the Yarra, but was rescued. She then promised not to again attempt suicide unless she was sure her sister would not suffer in consequence. She knew that she would not always be able to conquer the impulse towards self-destruction, and felt that her sister alone was unable to lift herself from the debasement into which ! she was falling.
