OVER FOUR THOUSAND AHEAD.
GRAY'S MATCH WITH IN__V. LONDON, June 13. In his billiard match of 16,000 up on level terms with Inman, Gray has scored 9334. Inman's total is 4861. Inman and Gray are playing 16,000 up on level terms for a stake of f2OO a-side, the winner to take 60 per cent of the gate and the loser 40 per cent. The game is being played at the National Sporting Club, and began on June 5. According to the latest English files, Inman conceded Gray the right to use crystalate balls, but stipulated that he should have the first chance of a match directly Gray's advisers allow him to play with ivories. To this the Australian rightly demurred. He was willing to promise a match, but had an objection to tie himseU down in any way. It was Gray's intention to play next season in the Billiard Control Club's championship, which takes place in April. In those circumstances, if Inman, as was expected, also challenged, he would have two ivory ball games with Gray, for the Australian was quite willing to meet Inman under those conditions.
