THE NEW AUSTRALIAN COINAGE.
(Xo the Editor.) Sir, —I would like to draw _,tt-_ikm to an evil, whitfh, although in its infancy at present, is likely to grow into dimensions that will make it a serious' problem to New Zealand in the future, .ad it is the introdmction of (the new An str__ian coinage into our Dominion. It seems to mc that owing to the proximity o _ Australia, this evil cannot be very well avoided; ccnseueaitly, I should htt-'ard that perhaps the wisest course 'that, itne New Zealand Government can follow is to make up its mind to recognise tli.ncw coinage, and to set about collecting • its share of the profits made by its issue, j At least the Government here could} make representations that some distine- j] fcive feature he given to these new coins, | as at present owing to the similarity of I j our own current coinage, it is practically \ impoasible to avoid being victimised.— I I am, etc., I simxx-K.
