ONEHUNGA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting of the On-hnnsn Borough Council was held last evening, when there were present the Mayor (Mr. John Rnwe) and Messrs. I. Lomai, T H. Horn, J. E. Baldwin, J. Simpson. C. C. Davis, A. MeColl. S. U. Skinner, It. DillicarThe town clerk reported that' the district fund w.-is in credit £S7 1/10, and the cemetery fund wus in credit £2172 13/. Onehunsa Zoo.—lt was resolved by the ConiK-il-iiwomniittee to goon with the'legal proceedings a gainst the proprietor of: the Onehunga Zoo fo? infringing the borough by-laws. The. health ofilcev (I>r. M-kgllll wrote stilting that he-had informed Mr. Boyd thai until t'le sanltaryf. conditions were fulfilled, lie would prohibit the landing of the animals. Coronation l-'irebei-—The Council-ln-com-mittee recommended that the Government be approached for a £ _br £ subsidy to ereit a coronation lirehel. Sanitatlo-.i.—lt was renotved to accept Dr. Makgills offer of a saTEtary and drainage inspector to assist the' borough Inspector when necessary.he accepted, provided his services were available- when' wanted. Drainage Cm tract. —A tetter was re coived from c'olsou and Co _ drainage contractors, complaining of t_ c delay In the progress payments, and sttctSng that owing to the delay they had to pay interest amonnting to a -consid.r-Me, amount. It was decided to ask the engineer to make up the accounts every fourth .Friday, so as to be in time for the ordinary meeting of the Council. St. John Arabulance.A litter was received from the secretary of tbe St John Ambulance Association, asking for permission to hold a street collect'.-n on the 21st of Jnne. Th" Mayor said that as there was no chance of getting a coronation grant ■for tbe lirebeU. a collection should be taken up for raeir >>wn local brancii of tbe St. Jomn Ai_J>ulan-.-e Brigade. If £130 could be raised locally, the Government grant of £ for £ would suffice to erect a suitable bnik.ing. He had no doubt that a suitable section near the old library could he secured. On the motion of tbe Mayor, it was doj-ided to meet tbe brigade on "Wed-ne-d.iy niglit. and discn?s the matter with them. Water Supply Finance.—The Onehunga Water Works Commissioners sent in their annnal statement, which showed a very sari*fn-*torv financial position, a great, portion of the sinking fuud producing G per. Street Improvement. —Mr. C. C. Davis moved that a portion of land at the corner of Qundrant Hoad and Trafalgar Street be I tuocupml to ronnd off the corner.—Carried. A flirt-»r motion to sell tbe section nt the corner of Queen Street and Trafalgar Street was negatived, and the matter deferred for 1 further consideration. Notice of Motion.—Councillor Davis gave notice of motion: "That the Council consider the matter of tree planting in the streets and otherwise beautifying the town. Councillor M.-OU gave ico » motion: "That a shelter shed be erected on the Council's section at corner of Queen and Trafalgar Streets." Geddes' Basin.—ln reply to a question the Mayor said he considered that tbe present time was not opportune for pioceedlng with ! the Gedd-es' Basin improvement scheme. It would be better to wait until the completion - of the drainage works now iv progress. I
