A BARQUENTINE ASHORE.
PELOTAS STRANDED AT CASTLECLIFF. THE CREW SAFE. (By Telegraph.— Press Association.) WANGANUI. this day. The barquentine Pelotas, from Eden, New South Wales, which arrived off the bar last evening, was stranded on Castlecliff beach, about a quarter of a mile from the north mole. There was a heavy fresh in the river, and the tug, towing the barquentine. failed to breast it. When both vessel? had reached the pilot station they drifted out over the bar where a heaw southeast wind drove the Pelotas ashore. The crew is safe, and the vessel is in a good position, and it is expected that she will be floated without difficulty when th--weather moderates. The" Pelotas has a cargo of sleepers for the Gorcville Tramway Board.
