The s.s. Wlmmera left for Sydney shortly after 11 o'clock last night, having been delayed in her loading operations by heavy rain. The A. and A. lines chartered steamer Mimiro arrived at Melbourne from New York on Sunday last. She calls at Sydney next, and then Auckland, where she will be due about the end of this month. The s.s. Clan Ross sailed at 12.30 p.m. to-day for Kaipara, to continue her loading for Melbourne. She returns to New Zealand with a cargo of jariah from Hunbury. The R.M.S. Athenic is expected to arrive at Wellington from London and Plymouth, via Capetown and llobart, about 5 o'clock this evening. Mr W. Paul has succeeded Mr Davies as second officer of the Moana. The latter is awaiting orders at Wellington. Notice appears in this week's "Gazette" that Captains William Brown and John Parker Rasper have been appointed master mariners to act with a surveyor of ships at I lie port of Auckland ln fixing the position of tbe loadline of vessels. Mr W. Signal, superintending engineer for Messrs Levin and Co.'.s coastal fleet, is to leave Wellington next Friday by the lonic fur London. He will place an order for. and will supervise, the building of the new steamer which Messrs Levin and Co. will use tn fill the vacancy caused by the recent sale of the Himltangl. The new vessel is to be built in Scotland, and will he about the same size and similar In type to the Himitnngl. The new boat Is expected to arrive in New Zealand in March next.
