A meeting of the Works Committee of the Cambridge Borough Council was held yeßterday morning, when the matter of how to celebrate Coronation Day came up. No communication had been received from the Government as to what should be done, and as the time is getting short in which to make arrangements for such celebrations it was resolved to give the school children of Cambridge and the surrounding districts a free picture Bhow on the evening of that day, iv the Town Hall, at 7 p.m. A special service will be held in St. Andrew's Church at 11 a.m. So far these are all the arrangements that have been made for that auspicious occasion. The Baptists of Cambridge have purchased a section iv Queen-street, on which they intend to erect n church. The evenlug was devoted to the reading and discussion of the varied and diversified contributions to the magazine, the editor of which (Mr. Thos. Robinson) was highly congratulated on the Issue. Though work at the mines is becoming better, there is still some broken time. Nearly every day the manegement Is obliged to turn away men seeking employment, the number of men at present employed requiring no Increase. Great pi-ogress is being made with the workshops at the Extended, and these, when finished, will materially conduce to the convenience of all concerned. Mr. Butler, the newly-appointed home missionary to the Presbyterian Church, began work In his new sphere on Sunday, when he preached to good audiences at Ngaruawah-i in the morning and -at Huntly In the evening. Mr. Butler, who nails from Fellding, comes with hlgb recommendations aud ought to be a decided acquisition to Huntly. During the week the organiser (Rev. P. B. Frnzer) lately appointed by the General Assembly visited ail parts of the district, and was accorded a hearty welcome by the residents and settlers, whose sympathies with home mission work the visit did much to invigorate. The preliminary work In connection with the erection of the bridge, in the way of assembling material and plant, erecting sheds, building pontoons, filing staging, etc., has been almost completed, so that In a short time progress will be visible to nil. This week a start will be made with the construction of the fcrro-concrete piles. Last week a meeting of the Recreation Ground Committee was held, Mr. H. Buchanan presiding. Mr. F. Twiname presented the balance-sheet, which showed a credit of £1 IS/. B"or the ensuing year Mr. J. Fletcher was elected president, and Mr. H. I'cckham, jnnr., was appointed secretary.
