SAILORS' HOME -MISSION HALL. A most enjoyable concert was given in the Saßors' Home ilission Hall last evenIns by the -workers and friends. Tne twelfth annual social in connection with tie above lodge was held last evening in the Druids' Hall. Newton- Between 80 and 90 couples were present, and dancing' was carried on till 2 a.m. in the morning. The sisters of Hinemoa Lodge were largely responsible for making the great success it proved to be. COSTLEV HOME CONCERT. The Inmates of the Costley Home were given a treat on Friday night in the form of a concert provided by Mr. Schofield, a member of the Hospital Board. Items were contributed by an orchestra and Messrs. Feutoo, Schofield. Hawte, Haus, and Mesdames Jackson and Reddings. OTAHUHU. " : The Otahuhu Road Board met in the Board's oulce on Thursday. Mr F. Lipplatt (chairman) presided, the full Board being present. The claim of J. W. Andrew was passed for payment. The amount of the claim, which was for a strip of lanJ acquired by the Board for widening King-street, had "been reduced to £160 5/. The secretary of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board wrote requesting payment of Ouiahu's contribution. £179 6/10. Some astonishment was expressed ax the amount of the demand, and payment was authorised in quarterly instalments. A deputation of residents in Clevedon-road waited on the Board requesting that the metalling of the road and footpath be completed. It was: decided to accede to the request. A resident of Mangere-road waited on the Board, and asked them to use tbe.ir influence with the Auckland Gas Company to induce them to extend the service as far a-*, tlie Mangere crossing. The Board regretted that they had no control over the matter. In connection with street lighting, it was decided to instal six new lamps. Complaints at the delay of the Spiral Pipe Company in supplying material were made by mem,. bers. The contractors were oeing hindered in their operations, and the work was being practically hung up for want of fittings, etc. It was decided to advertise for tenders in the "Star'" for 500 yards of blue metals for crushing for road material; also, tenders for scow load of shells, to be delivered at Main-street wharf. WAITEMATA COCNTX COCXCIJL ~" Mr A Cochrane presided at the monthly meeting of the Waitemata County Council held last evening. Other members present were Messrs H. H. Adams, TT. McCathie, T. Hortou, F: Dye. J. Tf. O'Neil, A. M. Lane, and J- Taylor. ■SViinitai-y Troubles. —A number of Takapuna residents waited on the Council as a deputation In connection with the fulfilment of the Taiiapuna sanitary contract. It was decided to supply the residents with sealed pans, and work the contract on that -basis. Road Forming.—Mr H. Knowles' tender of £197 for 4S chains of side-cutting on the Wairere-road was accepted. Telepnones".—An application was received from the Silverdale Telephone Club for permission to erect telephone poles on the Silverdale roads. The request was granted. Shell.—A letter was received from the Auckland Harbour Board stating that in future local bodies would be .allowed to procure shell only from Shoal -Bay. Chairman.—lt was decided to send a tetter of sympathy to Mr J. McLeod (chairman of the Board), who is seriously ill.
