The infringement of the Patent for "The Goldscbmidt Thermit Process" for the ■welding of metal pieces, was the subject of an interesting suit in .the Supreme Court recently, when the Plaintiff and Patentee, Dr. H. Goldschmidt, of Essen, Germany, obtained an injunction, with, order for costs, against H., Chinu, of Adelaide, restraining Infringement of .the patent. In a lengthy judgment in the Patentees' favour, Mr Justice Street traversed all the arguments of •the Defendant's counsel, and held that the patent was valid. The evidence showed that this process has been successfully and largely used in all parts of the world, also in many parts of Australia aud New Zealand (more particularly in Sydney and Adelaide), for the welding of Steel Tramway Rails, thereby doing away with the usual Fisliplates and Bolts at joints, and establishing perfect electrical conductivity without the aid of copper bonds. It has also been used with great success in the repairing of broken partß of Machinery, Locomotive and Steamboat 'Frames, the rapidity with which the repair is completed and the machine put back into service being a -very important feature foils recommeudatiou among Engineers.
