PROPOSED MEW FREEZING WORKS.
The Northern Wairoa is (says our correspondent) steadily asserting itself as a fine agricultural and pastoral country. Dairying and stock-raising are two im- " portant industries, and both are rapidly increasing in importance. Another important industry is likely to be added ■ to those already in existence, namely, a ■ freezing works. It was suggested a short time ago that works should be erected at Kirikopuni, the proposed sfte being con- - tiguous to both the North Auckland Main Trunk .and one of the finest waterways in New Zealand. Ev«ry facility, it waj -contended, would be available for export trade. The question has been freely discussed by the farming comnranitrVj and now the matter lias been taken up by the directors of the Northern Wairoa Co-operative Dairying Company. A : preliminary discussion took place at a . meeting held at Aratapu on Friday, and eventually a special committee was appointed to go into.-tlie whole question. The suggestion was made that a subsidiary company should be formed for the . control and operation of freezing works. The matter is one of great import to the district, and with our dairying and our wool-growing industries in a thriving condition, the operations of freezing works would obviously assist in the development of stock raising, which has already assumed immense proportions. The prospects Of the Northern Wairoa are indeed exceedingly bright.
