Our Coromandel correspondent reports the death of Mrs. Martha Meredith (mother of Mr. A. G. Harvey, the wellknown mine manager), aged S2 years. She arrived in New Zealand in 1871* from England, and had been" resident" in. the Coromandel district foi 39 years.
Mr. G. E. Hart, chief of staifof the "Christehurch Prese," "returned to Auckland with his wife and daughter by the express last evening from a visit to E,otorua. Mr. and Mrs. Hart and their daughter are stopping at the Royal Hotel -while in Auckland, and will return South, ■by the mail train to-morrow night.
Mr. D. McDonald, second engineer on the s.s. Maheno, who is severing hie connection with the service of the Union Company to take up a. position as chief engineer at the Milton Woollen Mills, was yesterday presented by his brother officers with a valuable marble clock, as a token of the regard in which.he is held and as earnest of;their well-wishes for his future prosperity. The presentation wae made in a brief, but happy, speech by the chief of the engine-room staff, Mr. Bosiri.
Dr. Graham Ball, the inventor of the telephone, arrived at the Bluff yesterday afternoon by the Mbana. He is accompanied by Mrs. Bell and Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Baldwin, the latter havins achieved fame in aerial circles in America. The party are making a tour of Auetralia and New Zealand, and go to-day to Queenstown, thence to Dunedin, Christehurch, Wellington, Kotorua, and' Auckland, leaving Wellington again in time to catch the boat sailing from Sydney on October 5 for the Philippines.
