MOTHER MARY AUBERT'S FOUNDLING HOME.

fTo the Editor.) - ■ . ~ Sir, —Don't you think Mother Aubert has taken a step in the; right direction? As to screening immorality, I would just like to ask, has any good ever been done by exposing it? What Mother Aubextsaid is perfectly right. It also shows she is a true woman, who has studied this-thing out for herself, in-a broad- spirit.!- 1 have heard girls say the very same thing. Dr. Barnardo's system is right and-good. There is a great need of a Home in Auckland, where girls could, go .before and.during accouchement, with a creche attached where those who have no home to go to could stay on and go to work daily. It would help the girls to help, themselves, at the same time encouraging motherly, instinct as well as being a -public benefit by which domestic help couid_be obtained. Rescue Homes do very good work amongst a certain class in many ways, but they nre .not places for so-called first offences. In order to-do, good we,.must nob degr,;dp those we wish to-help. . Many of these girls have been well brought r .up, and are very respectable apart from the one mistake made, for which they alone have to suffer; and if what they go through in a merely normal case is not lesson enough for them, I don't think anything.possibl.; could be until the time is ripe for them to see their own folly. As tWre seems no immediate way of stopping tile cause of all this misery, nothing .would ,have a more lasting or better effect than, foi Mother Mary Aubert. Miss. Hf.np,ookv S?s ter Anna and others to study the mattei from all points, and adopt the .best mj of helping our weak sisters unselfishly Hoping my above suggestion will .rppea to others m-Ore able to help, I am. etc. v ROSA SCHERER, Gillies Avenue, Epsom. . ■ ■,- .
