AN EXCITING ACCIDENT.
TWELVE PERSONS INJURED. TWO SERIOUSLY. M-ELBOURN.E, May 20. An exciting accident occurred at Walhalla list evening. A parly of picnickers, mostly women, made a pleasure trip on the Long Tunnel Extended Company's Loco-tramway, and were returning when the car got out of hand and, rounding a turn at. high speed, tlew ofT the rails ajid hurled its occupants, consisting of 11 adults and an infant child, down a hill, the car landing vn top of them. All were more or le.-:s injured. It wad Uireequarters of an hour before word could be got to Walhalla. In the meantime some woodcutters found tho sull'ercrs, and rendered all the aid in their power. Fires were lighted, and a few blankets were obtained, as it was bitteriy cold. Medical attendance wn_s summoned, anil the doi-tor found that Mrs Heazelwood was suffering from internal inj-ories; Mrs Dawson. fracture of the left arm; "Mrs Ila.trick, an injured ankle; -Mrs Phillips, injuries to the fnre, and her infant child, fracture of the skull; Mr Phillips, fractured shoulder; and Mto Lyons, injuries to the face; while llr Lyons. Mrs Rryden Rrown. Miss Bamns, and Nutsc Robinson had received slight injuries and shock. The more seriously injured were put on trucks find taken about three mile* further nn: while those that could bt> taken down tho hill worn removnrl in a conrsh. Mrs HeflJtelwnoil anil Xtirsc "Robinson wore taken to hospital, and others to their respective homos. No hope is hold out fnr the recovery of tho child, and Mr.? Heazelwood's condition is still critical.
