AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP. An amateur billiard championship tournament of 500 up in tlie heats, and 1000 in thermal, was begun at Darby's/Buildings, last nignt, under the auspices of the Auckland' Amateur Sports Club The first heat was between P. Lovelock and E. Morrison, and the former won an exciting game, with only one point to spare Morrison made a very good fight, and should have won. When the winner was at 445, Morrison was 95 behind, but by dogged ■play pulled up till the board showed 449 all. Lovelock's bsst break was 56, and other runs included 2i, 20, 32, 27, and SO. Morrison's highest break was 86, and he also put some 20"s, a 28, nnd a 28. This afternoon J. Russell plays J. Rynn, end this evening (the contestants wili bo J. Carl and J. Cook.
