W.C.T. CTNJOJJ. : The fortnightly meeting of the W.CT.TJ. was held yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Dewar presided. Various Items. of business were disposed of, and letters were read, bearing on the subject of Hie Nelson system of Bible 'lit schools: also on ■' Pence Scouting for Girls," the latter being a. scheme for the moral, rueutal and: physical training of girls and young, women, It alms, at true citizenship and its object' in preparedness , or • any situation or emergency that may occur in life. Girls from 12 to 20 axe eligible to become scouts, and on being enrolled, they promise on their- honour ot be, loyal to God and their. King; to do good to othersat all times, and to obey the Scout Lav». A girl's honour is trusted; she is straightforward and trustful; she Is kind and courteous to all, especially to the aged and infirm; she is taught among other things to tieknots, pitch a tent, camp cooking, camp sanitation, path finding by the sun and by the stars, hill climbing, and watermanship; her field ' work is in the: form ■of nature study,: she learns, the names of plants, andanimals as welL as their value as food; she. Jearhs first aid to the injured, liie-sanng, how to restore the apparently drowned, and what remedies to apply in case of poisoning, She is taught how to care- foe her oiv-n----lieajtfL, home nursing,' management of Infants, and invalid cookery; also self-defence triefcs. All these are taught under the fascinating ■ term- of scooting, the girls' watchword being:. " Be always ready." Some, profitable discussion followed-
At the quarterly meeting , of the Loyal Dominion Lodge, tO.OvE., M.U., the deputation appointed to interview Messes. HetIhby, Ltd., In reference to a new hall, reported that satisfactory arrangements had -been made, and that the lodge wood most .probably meet next time In the. new- premises.
