STRIKE IMPASSE.
PROPRIETORS' POSITION. ANOTHER CONFERENCE. (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) SYDNEY, February 24. The negotiations for the settlement of the Newcastle strike have reached an impasse. When the Wages Board met Judge Scholes, who had previously conferred with the colliery proprietors, after a lengthy reviewing of the negotiations, announced that the proprietors took the position that their promise to take back employees referred only to members of Northern Colliery Employees' Federation, and would not be held to include members of individual unions not in the federation. They did not intend to sacrifice men who had come to their aid during the strike to make room for others. Judge Scholes asked Mr. Charlton, the men's representative, to carefully consider the position and make a suggestion, if possible, to overcome the difficulty. Mr. Charlton suggested that the proprietors meet a representative of the men and talk things over. If the position could be defined something might be done. Nothing was definitely decided when the Court adjourned till to-morrow. Meantime it is understood an effort will be made to reach some solution. JUDGE'S REMOVAL DEMANDED (Received 10.2S a.m.) SYDNKT, this day. The Amalgamated Miners' Association at Broken Hill demand the removal of Judge Rogers from the Bench for making a political speech in sentencing Peter Bowling and the other strike leaders.
