The stock and cattle exhibits were exceedingly good," and at the concert held on Saturday night the judge stated that he had never seen better quality of horses. Cattle and sheep excited , keen competition, and the judge of the sheep expressed surprise at the size and quality of the exhibits; in fact, he had no hesitation in stating that 'the sheep were nt to hold their own in any of the leading shows of 'the Dominion. Among the indoor: ex--hibits were some very line samples of maize. Luring the past year or two the area under maize cultivation has been tripled, .and a southerner on Saturday stated that he would not be surprised if in a few years' time trading boats were coming (here regularly to take away shipments of maize and •wheat, the grain of the latter being quitequal to , southern.
