N.Z.- CONGREGATIONAL UNION.
PUBLIC MEETING. A public meeting was held in Beres-ford-street Church last night in. connection, vrith the sittuogs of "the Congregational Union of >Tew Zealand, at T\-hioh Mr. A. M. Liewis presided. The Rev. J. Sargenson of Christchurtib read a paper written by the Rev. David Herd, M.A., of Pa-kuerston, on "Indrvidualism." The Rev. W. Saunders of Dunedin next dealt with "Drifting," and the Rev. W. A. Evans delivered an address ■on "Whibher." TO-DAY'S PROC3EEDIXG-S. The Council met at 10.30 o'clock this •morning, 31r. A. M. Lewis presiding. L-M.S.—Rev. A. E. Hunt, on bchaH of Rev. \V. J. Smith, submitted a complete return of the receipts of the past year for the London Missionary Society as follows:—"Wellington, £300; Ciiristchuroh, £12S 7/S; Otago, £326 16/4; and Auckland, £201; total, £956 4/, an increase of £150 11/ on tte previous year. Pastors' Provident Fund.—On the motion of the Rev. L Sarginson, the forllowing resolution was tarried with applause, , '"That this Council, upon the occasion of Ms retirement from the Board of the Pa.st.or 3' Provident Fund, hereby tenders to the Hon. G. Fowld's an expression of its grateful apprec.i-j.tion of the unswerving devotion with which for 20 years he ■has served the interests of the fund. "VVe recognise that but for the zeal, per--1 severance, and aibiUty displayed by ill". ! Fowlds during thiat long period in the interests of this most worthy cause, the goal -which has been so happily attained could not have benn reached for many years to come. In taking leave of Mr. Fowids as a member of the Board, our regret is tempered by the fact that his labours have been crowned with success, aad also by hits a-ssiirajice that his interest in the fund will remain unimpaired, and we rejoice t'hafc the vacancy on the Board has been filled iby the election of !Mr. G. M. Fowlds, the eldeet son of the retiring member. Next Meeting.—-Rev. Saunders invited the Union to hold its next meeting at Dnnedia. He also expressed thanks for the hospitality shown during the visit to Auckland. Election of Officers,—Selection was made by ballot of all the- members, and after these (had /been taken the Rev. A. E. Hunt w-Ta chosen by a. clear majority as chairman for 1911. Secretary: Rev. H. Steele Craik was elected secretary in place of the Rev. W. Day, who declined to again take office. Rev. J. H. zie was elected as as3iiJtant secretary; treasurer, ilr. W. H. Lyon, wiho wa3 elected by all the Council standing. Mr. G. B. Gregory was appointed registrar; Mr. C. E. Ovmpbell, auditor; Rev. H- Steele Craik, preacher next conference; Rev. W. Day, LJVI.S. representative. District Committees.—Auckland: Rev 3. W. Day. J. 11. Mackenzie. S. Griffiths, Messrs. A. T. Craig, H. Edmonds, J. E. J. H. Wilkinson, T. W. White, and C. V. Leijon. Young People's Sunday.—The. Rev. J. Sargensen spoke strongly in respect to all the churcbes keeping the one Sunday fixed by the Council as Children's Day. Several others spoke on similar lines. On the motion of the R.ev. W. Saunders, it was decided that Children's Day be held on May 22, the Sunday suggested by the Sunday-school Union.
Thanks. —The customary resolutions of thanks was adopted, on the motion of Rev. W. D"-iy, to all who had assisted to makp the sittings of the Union a success.
This concluded the business meeting of the. 1910 conference of the Congregational Union of New Zealand.
