SAVING A WOULD-BE SUICIDE.
NEWCASTLE, February S. j The Newcastle Beach was this after- i noon the scene of a rescue in sensational circumstances. A fashionably-attired young man, who had been for some time perambulating the sands, was noticed to climb on to the rocks at the rear of the hospital, and then, divesting himself of his clothes, suddenly plunged into the sea. At this particular spot there is • always a current running, and to-day with a fairly.heavy swell, the surf was boiling round the rocky prominence. Two young men who were bathing on the beach at once swam out- towards the \ rocks, and were fortunate enough to seize hold of the would-be suicide as he ' was being swept seaward. With very ! great difficulty they hauled the man ! who was by this time unconscious, on to" ! the beach There the application or methods for restoring the apparently I drowned brought him round. He was! then handed oyer to the police. He was 1 taken to the lock-up and charged with ! attempted suicide.
