■HHNTLY, Mond-y. The tenuis match, -Huntly v. Trinity Cl'iib, Hamilton, took place on Saturday afternoon, on tie. Huntly courts, ln splendid weather, a pleasant c«me being the result. The I_i;nllton players had a rather easy win. the score being 101 games to 70, or 8 uses* to 2. A i number of interested spectators •vitT»c. the match. Afternoon tea was dispeiist- by the ladies. The Huntly and Ngaruarwahia Presbyterian Sunday-school had a. most enjoyable picnic to Mr James' farm on the WaiDa river, about three miles above Ngaramihfa, on Saturday. The weather was all thai could be desired, and a lsrge number of parents and friends of the scholars took advantage of the delightful trip up the Waikato and Whip a rivers. The "Freetrader," In charge of Capt. Ragg; conveyed the picnickers to the rendezvous. The scholars were In charge of Mr R. G. Kirgan, home missionary, and teachers. A stoppage was made at Leek's landing, Taupirl, and Ngaruawahta, to pick up passengers. A most enjoyable time was.spent In races, games, etc. Prizes were distributed to the successful competitors.
Pastors Evans and Weaver, the Mormon missionaries at Wauhl, leave on Thursday next for Taurangn, to attend the annual conference of the church, and expect to be accompanied by a number of native members of the local church.
The Pukemiro School Committee has received a communication from the Auckland Education Board that unless a place of residence is found for the teacher the school will be closed, which will be a great hardship to the district, as It Is anticipated the attendance will tie over 20 pupils this session. The settlers consider that tne Board ought to build a small house near the school as a teacher's residence.
The public of Huntly will learn with, regret that Mr F. G. Davies, stationmaster, Is being transferred to Walhi station. During his stay of over two years In Huntiy lie has proved himself a very capable official, and has won the respect of both the business people and travelling public. TAtrMARTJNTTL A. cricket match was played between Mniumui and Taumarunui, and resulted In a win for Tn.umarunul by 82 runs. The principal scorers for Taumarunui were: F. Chrlstensen 54, Hill 25, and Sarah 15. For Manunui: Phelan 20 and Durand 18. Bowlers: Tamnarunui, Sarah 6 and F. Chrlstensen S; Jlanunul, Fenemore 5 and .Dnrand 3 wickets.
A farewell social was tendered to Mr and •Mrs Claridge and Mr and Mrs Bannennan last Friday in the Town Hall. The place was full, and a very ploTint evening was spent. Mrs Claridge w:i> j i .'tented, with a silver teapot, and Mr ( laridge with, a fountain pen. Mrs Hannei:iian received a set of brushes, and Mr Bamierman a pipe.
