Owing to Anniversary Day turning out so wet, the Onehunga Presbyterian Sunday Scliool picnic, which was to have been held on that day, was postponed till Satarday, when a most enjoyable afternoon was spent by the children in the One-tree Hill Domain. A number of races, were run by the children, and a great many prizes were distributed to the children, during the afternoon. A taxi-cab came to grief yesterday afternoon thrcragh colliding ■with a, lamp post in Lower Queen-street, Onehunga. One of the occupants fell out ibut was not seriously hurt, and the driver and the other three passengers retained their seats. The lamp-post was broken and ■knoekod down, while one of tie wiieels of the cub was wrenched off. The exiplanation of the affair is that the wheels of the car skidded on the tramlines at a bend in the street.. Lord Strathcona disapproves of Enoch's Block Settlement scheme. Captain Collins. Australian Agent, said that the colonies did not want the unemployed of t.he cities, and urged systems like that of the Rev. Gwynnes. Mr. Hall-Jones favoured individual rather than Corporation settlement.
