MOTOR CAR ACCIDENT.

CAR GOES OVER A BRIDGE.

Mr. W. E. Hutchison, the weU-known contractor, and" former member of the City Council and Harbour Board, met with a nasty accident on Saturday afternoon at Avondale, as was reported ia our eight o'clock edition of fhat day. He was driving his motor-car • over the stone bridge on the New North-rood on the Auckland side of Avondale railway station, when a hole in the Toad threw the gear out of order, with the result that the car ran over the side of the bridge, and fell a dis&nce of about fifteen feet Into the gully. Mr. Hutchison was thrown out, and, although he sustained some injuries, still escaped marvellously under the circumstances. It was very fortunate for him that Mr. Wesley Spragg, who Was driving through to Waitakerei Ranges, passed by shortly after the accident ioccurred- Mr. Spragg helped the injured man Into the vehicle, and drove him to the residence of Dr. Carolan, who gave skilful medical attendance, and found that Mr. Hutchison was suffering from compound fracture of th* arm. Dr. Carolan set the bone, and the patient was put to bed at the doctor's residence at Avondale. We are informed by Dr. Carolan that Mr. Hutchison is making good progress, and will t>e able to return home in a few day*.
