A BURGLAR'S BALANCE-SHEET.
Amusing information was given In the Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Monday, December 20th, in regard to * case of burglary at the Aberdeen Bailors' Institute. A young man, William Joseph Jarrls, pleaded guilty to breaking Into the institute on December 11 or 12, and stealing several letters and papers, etc. It appeared that on opening a -lockfast drawer he found a paper on which was noted £2 18/8, representing the amount that had been drawn at the Institution, but there was no money in the cash drawer. Jarvls was so disappointed on finding no cash that lie wrote on the paper the follow lnc: — "Pear Madame, —Please accept my deepest apologies for putting your office in slight disorder and the Chubb lock hors de combat, but, candidly speaking, I thlnlc this is about the rottenest crib I've ever shot at cracking. After four hours' elated hopes and exertions I find the truth of the proverb: •Wβ all came Into this world with nothing and we can't take anything out.' It's so with this place. After four hours' Ineffectual exertion I haven't got the price of a stale dough nut. —I am, yours penitently, Mathew, the Midnight Maurauder." On the other side was the following "account":— Dr. to Mathew, the Midnight Maurauder. Dec. 12—To A broken heart.... £2 0 0 „ „ „ Lost time 018 0 „ „ „ Trouble 0 0 5 £2 18 5 Jarvis, who had been released from prison on December 8, alter undergoing a sentence of four months' imprisonment for a similar offence, was sentenced to six months' Imprisonment with hard labour.
