A fire, ■which occurred early this morning, gutted the two-storey premises owned br Mr. Innes, and occupied by Mr. MePherson (tailor). The brigade made a good save, the Ellerbeck Studio, adjoining, suffering damage to the extent of only £50 by smoke. The building destroyed was insured for £ 800 in the Queensland, and Mr. McPaexson's stock for £200 in the Standard, and £100 in the Alliance.

At the Supreme Court to-day John Chadwick was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment on a charge of forgery, to run concurrently with a sentence prisoner is now serving for a similar offence. John James O'Connor, who had broken his probationship, was sentenced tc 12 months' imprisonment. WELLINGTON, this day. Mr John Jack, formerly chairman of the Wellington Harbour Board, died ye& terday, aged 81. He was a prominent Presbyterian, and also took great interest in (Jaltlonian Society matters. DUNEDIN, Saturday. William Johnston Rae was to-day committed for trial at Balclutha on a charge of sheep-stealing. CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The entries received for the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Show this year show an increase of 204 ovei the total of last year. The principal increases are in sheep (73), cattle (33), pigs (16), and dairy produce (94). The grand total for 1909 is 2,014, against 1,810 last year. NEW PLYMOUTH, this day. The Custouns revenue for October was £3446, as against £3402 lost year.
