FABNELL. The Parnell Borough Council met last night. Present: Tlie Mayor tMr. R. S. Briggs) and Councillors Blues, Palmer, ilcCouuell, Fltt, Thomas, and jcbns. Fire Brigade Subsidy.—lt vas resolved to grant a subsidy of £30 towards the up- ; keep of the Parnell Volunteer Fire Brigade. Mechanics' Hay-road Lines.—ln respect j to the proposals arrived at between the j Railway Department, Harbour Board, and i City and Paruell Councils, touching the . suggested rearrangement of the road lines at Mechanics' Bay, it was dedded to refer the question to the Streets Commlt'tee for a report. A Railway Account.—The district engineer of the Railway Department forwarded an account for £35, the cost of shifting the railway eo'ttage from the portion of the railway reserve at Parnell which is to be handed over to the Council for the purpose of widening Domnln-drlve. A pretty general opinion was expressed by councillors that the account was a bit premature, In that the Department's part of the performance had not been completed, while it was also urged that as the Department was the Council's debtor to the extent of considerably more than 'the account represented, it would be good business to defer payment to a more seasonable occasion. It was decided to refer the question to the Streets C'onimfttee for a report. Water Consumption.—The turncock reported that the water consumption for the past fortnight h-ad been 2,033,000 gallong, 1,560,000 gallons through the Ponsonby meters, and 443,000 gallons through the Knyber meter. ONEHO JTGA. The Onebunga Borough Council met last night. Mr. J. Rowe (Mayor) presided, and all the members were present. Not Settled.— Messrs. John Burns and Co. wrote with regard to their claim for j supplying waterworks requisites. As the i Council declined any further liability, the ilrm asked for the name of the borough I solicitor, or they would submit the question | to arbitration. It was agreed to supply Mesrs\ John Burns aud Co. with the name of Mr. McVengh as the borough solicrtor. Mr. E. J. Hlgglns wrote complaiulng of the action takeu by the town clerk in seeking to recover rates from his mother. Cox's Creek Sower. —Councillor Holdsworth reported re the conference with the WorUn Committee of the ("ltj- Council re carding the outfall of the Cox's Creek sewer. The result wns that the city authorities had assured them that the work would be done as soon as funds were available. Mr to be inclined to go upon the area basis, ami not the population, whhii would throw more than the fair proportion of the cost upon Urey Lynn. The report was received. Mr Gnrlnnd said the Auckland City were tin? main transgressors In respect to the sewnge emptied Into Cox's Creek. The city emptied ten times as much sewage Into the in take as the Grey Lynn Borough did. He was not satisfied with the way they were treated by the City Council. Sometimes they were patted on the back and told to be "good boye. and at other times they got a smnck in" the face. If they went to law the question of payment would be settled on a fair basis. Mr Wnruoek said the strength of the Grey Lynn Council would be in getting the backing up of tho Health Department. It was decided to forward a copy of the Borough Engineer's recommendations, re dealing with the sewage at Cox's Creek, to the Health Department. Drainage on Sherwood Estate.—A. C. Iverson aud T. E. Short wrote re drainage on Sherwood Estate. The letters were, on the motion of Mr Norgrove. referred to the Streets Committee, with power to take legal opinion upon the matter. Surrey Creseeut. —Mr W. Lovett's tender was accepted for the amended specifications for the formation of the road at Surrey Crescent. The price Is £4000, the amount allocated under the loan. Quarry at Western Springs.—lt was decided, on the recommendation of the Streets Committee, to offer £23 per annum for quarry on the City Council's property, Western Springs Estate.
