To the Patea Shipping Company's steamer Arapawa belongs the distinction of being the first vessel to berth at the Seaford Coal Company's new wharf at Pakawau, Golden Bay. The 'wharf has recently been completed, but some distance of railway has yet to be laid .before the wharf will be in working order. There is a depth of 19ft high water springs at the outer end of the wharf. The Arapawa called there to remove Mr Donald McLean's (the contractor) gear to Wanganul.
