MAXAWATTJ CHAMPIONSHIP. (By Telegraph.- Press Association.) PADMBHSTON NORTH, Friday. In the finai for the Mnnawatu golf championship Miss Snodgrass, of Weltport defeated Mrs. Bevau, the New Zealand champion, on the 19th green. Mrs. Bevan was I ordered by the doctor not to play, but did I so, and was continually short on the greens I which were wet from the rain, but the golf I was nevertheless excellent, Miss Snodgrass going up to 40, only one over par and I finishing in 02, to Mrs. Bevan's 93 Miss Gould, 70— 6—G4, won the 14-hole' stroke handicap. Mrs. Guy Williams, in playing off for the bogey handicap, eoualled Mrs. Bevan s new link , record of 84. Miss Kat- ™ y, »™F wou llj ° dl- i v lnj; competition, I Miss Mill loljyds, be'ug second. Miss Snodgrnss, who has jnst won the indies' open golfing championship of Manawatu, bonting in the' flual Mrs. Bevan, open champion of New Zealand, has had a rather remarkable athletic record, having been lady champion of the Westport Golf Club since its Inception, four years ago, and twice (Including the present year) the West i Coast golfing champion. She Is lady champion of two Westport croquet clubs, and '■ also of the West Coast, and champion lady , In the West Coast combined tennis cham- • plonship. Her present performance Is all : the more creditable because . this season i she has had comparatively little practice on the linla.
