NORTH AUCKLAND MAIN TRUNK.

Mr. G. L". Peacoeke, chairman of th* Auckland. Railways-League, .has received the following report from the League* special commissioner with regard to the progress of the North Auckland Main Trunk railway:— "The Wellsford-Te Hana section has greatly advanced since I last sent you a report, and nearly all the work is completed. The public works train is now carrying passengers and goods from Wellsford to Te Hana. One or two of the fillings are stili giving trouble, and there is little chance of much improve-, ment until the dry weather sets in, the clay being wet and difficult to work. Beyond Te Hana station yard most of the earthwork has been completed as far as the tunnel. The Te Hana bridge is at a standstill owing to the want of the steel girders. When these come to hand they will be able to get along with, laying the rails to the tunnel, and so be able to get all the material for connecting it by train, and do away with the cost of carting. The overhead bridge on the road across the Te Hana creek is now finished, and is a very substantial structure. Most of the piles are driven for the Minene bridge, and it will be ready for the girders in a short time. The heading of the To-puni tunnel is. now through, and there are two shifts working at the tunnel. The completion of this work will. take ft considerable time yet, as the work cannot be rushed through. All the principal cuttings between the tunnel and Topuni are finished with the exception of two, and these should be finished in about five or six weeks. The station yard at Topuni is pretty well completed, and the work 'beyond is also well in hand. Very little work remains to be done with the exception of the overhead bridge across the Toad, -which has not yet been started."
