BOROUGH COUNCILS.
NEWMARKET. The fortnightly meeting was attended by Messrs E. Davis (Mayor), Teed, King, Jeffrey, Kinder, Whyman, McColl, Seccombe, and Whittome. Proposed Transfer.—The Remuera Koad Board by letter, to transfer to the Newmarket Borough Council the strip of land fronting on Mamikau-road from the Newmarket Hall to a point opposite Buck-lana-road, the road board to retain posses slon of the shelter shed near the corner of the Remtiera-road. The Board made an alternative offer to retain the land, and to contribute £35 towards tne cost of kerbing and channelling the footpath and repairing it, and fixing the levels. After some discussion the Council decided to take over the land. Electric Supply.—The Streets Committee recommended that the electricity supply from the Auckland City Council be accepted on the following conditions:—Mains of supply to other local bodies to be erected to the satisfaction of the Newmarket Council; all roadways broken up to be repaired within 14 days; the Newmarket Council to have power to require the Auckland City Council to make such connection as may be thought desirable; the electrical depnrtment to supply power free of charge to light six lamps In Khyber Pass and Manukau roads, and to supply all other power necessary for street lighting at the same price as it is supplied to the Auckland City Council. The recommendation wns adopted. Price of Water.—The Water Committee recommended that the Auckland City Council be requested to reduce the price charged for water, and that, if necessary, a committee be appointed to wait upon the Council with reference thereto.—This recommendation was adopted.
