aN EXCITING ARREST. • (By Telegraph.—Press Association.! CHEISTCHUBCH, Wednesday. Early this morning Constables Torrens Bud O'Connor heard that there were two undesirable characters in Durham-street South. They went to the locality, and iound a light in the district nurses' office. Constable Torrens went to the back door, and Constable O'Connor to the front entrance. They entered simultaneously, and one man rushed at O'Connor, who, lowever, used his baton with telling effect, and incapacitated his opponent. Torrens, hearing the noise of the struggle, ran to the front of the building, and found the second man. armed vith a bottle. There was another "mix-up," in .which the officer's baton was efficacious. This morning two men—George Nottingham and Fredk. Wm. Dennett —appealed at the Magistrate's Court, and ■were charged with having broken and entered a house with intent to commit a crime. They were remanded to August 4. Since the arrest of these two men, the aolice have received information of several cases of women being attacked by two men, and one woman has identified one of the men as one of the pair that attacked her. It is thought that Nottingham and Dennett were the men who attacked a young woman in BarbadoesStreet last night.
