On the motion of Mr. R, W. Hill, probate in the estate of Robert Rew deceased was granted by his Honor, Mr. Justice Sim, on Tuesday last. A farewell social, attended by .80 residents and friends, was tendered to Mr. F. W. Lang, M.P.,' at Tuhikaramea last night on the occasion of'severing his connection finally with the district. Mr. Lang was presented with a carriage clock as a memento' of hi 3 ■long stay in the district for over 30 years. Mr. J. Boss.- (of Dunedin), of the firm of, Messrs. Ross and Glendinrng, whohaa been spending a visit at the Central Hotel, left by the Rarawa this afternoon for New Plymouth. The new Commissioner of Crown Lands, Mr. E. C. Gold Smith, presided (, for the first time this morning over a v meeting of the Auckland Crown Lands Board. Mr. A. R Harris, as senior member of the Board, welcomed Mr. Gold Smith to Auckland, and said he hoped that the relations 'between the Commissioner and the members of the Board would be as- pleasant in the future as they had been in the past. Mr. Gold "Smith reciprocated the good wishes of members of t_e Board. Veterans living at a distance, who may wish to attend the presentation-of colours to the King's College Cadets at the Domain on Sunday, will be enabled to travel to Auckland on free passes, Mr. L. Levy having been notified to this fcfTect by the Railway Department. Ap-, plications for passes must-be in by Saturday next. If we had compulsory military training here on the lines of Gormany, is would at once relieve unemployment, sweep" up the hooligans and idlers, and turn them into usoful citizens, and we should haye _ nisoipliued army that would be a defence against 'invasion.—■ y%.
