THE TIMBER COMMISSION.
<By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.! WELLINGTON, this day. Before the Timber Commission to-day, Mr. Maxwell, under examination, said the depression in trade was not entirely! due to Oregon importations. He denied that heart of rimu was so difficult to obtain. It would not pay the Govern* ment to grow hardwood for sleepers. He believed in a' tree-planting policy. ' Mr. Clere, architect, deposed that Oregon had been of great -service to the Dominion, but it had its limitation. The quality of so-called 0.8. rimu left much to be desired. He could not speak too highly of heart of rimu, which was not attacked by the borer.
