DAMAGE BY FIRE.
THE VERDICT. A large mass of very conflicting evidence was given on Saturday afternoon in this case. Counsel did not comment upon the evidence. His Honor said it was utterly impossible for him to come to any conclusion. If a jury had sat on the case, they would have retired for four hours and disagreed. He would nonsuit the plaintiff. Costs would be allowed according to scale, with 15 guineas for one extra day. Mr. Reed for plaintiff; Mr. H. P. Richmond, instructed by Buddie, Button, and Co., for defendant. His Honor then adjourned the civil sessions until 31st May at 11 a.m.'
