a - ) TAUMABUNUI. The weather has been fair lately, and work on the roads and in the bushes has progressed very well. The Salvation Army, who have established themselves in the township, have been holding a harvest festival in the Town Hall. Sawmiiling appears to be on the improve, and will, it is expectejl, have a good effect on business in many parts of the district. The local Hospital Ball, to be held on Wednesday, the 21st, promises to be a unique affair. It is believed the event will be a semi-poster and fancy dress function. The road work in the Ohura district is being pushed ahead rapidly, and the need for the bridge across the Ongarne river is becoming more keenly felt by the settlers of that district as well as this town. A rumour has been afloat that n syndicate had been trying to secure a block of land in the P.ungapunga district, but there are others wanting some of the land so it will probably be bailotted for in the usual manner.
