The iast meeting of the present constitution of the Newmarket Borough Council was held last night. There were presentThe Mayor (Mr F. Bennett), Messrs E. Davis D. Teed, A. Seccombe, C. Leek, J. McColl' R. Holmes, and Borgolte. , Fire Brigade's Needs.—The Fire Brigade asked for a new head iamp for the reel as - the present one was worn out and past' re pair. The brigade also asked for the two helmets granted by the Council to be forwarded. The request for a. lamp was acceded to. Sheep Driving.—Application for permission to drive sheep through the principal thoroughfare it hours other than those allowed was w ell considered, but the Council did not agree to the request. One Coniicillor described the driving of sheep through the..principal street as being obnoxious and dangerous. - There were back streets which could be used, be added. Water Consumption.—There were 75.401 gallons of water pat on' Newmarket streets last month by the' Tramway Company's sprinkler. The number of car miles watered was 47}, which cost the borough f3 3/9 The charge, fixed by the agreement between the Council and the company, is 1/4 per car mile. «• •■ ■;_;
