TRADES AND LABOUR COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Auckland Tjades and Labour Council took place last night. On the motion of Mr. Tom Long, the president, Mr. Ernest Evans, was voted to the chair, Mr. Long having to speak .at the meeting convened by the National Defence League. There was a very small attendance. At a later stage the vice-president, Mr. Henry, arrived, and assumed the chair. Conciliation Commissioner.—The Auckland Certificated Engine Drivers' Union "endorsed the action of the president-(Mr. Tom Long) in refusing to recognise Mr. Harle Giles as Conciliation Commissioner Painters' Union. —Notice was received from the Auckland Painters' Union, expressing their intention Of joining , * the Council. The application for affiliation was accepted.
