DEVONPORT BOROUGH COUNCIL.

. The Devonport Borough Council met last night. Present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr. W. Handley), and Councillors Tlmewell, lOsborne, McLean, M-eCallum, Wilding; Cranch, Captain McKenzle, Froude and Grlbbin.

Billiard Saloon License.—David Barnhlll applied for a billiard saloon, license. Cγ. -51cCallum said applicant was a respectable burgess, and he moved that the grant be made. Cr. Osborne asked whether there was any time stipulated for closing the saloon. The Mayor said the hour of 11 p.m. was fixed by the Municipal Corporations Act. The application was granted.

Drivers' Licenses.—The application for drivers' licenses received for the ensuing year were considered. One whs refused another was granted conditionally, but all the otheTS were granted subject to the applicatious being signed by applicants.

Footpaths.—Various applications for footpath formation were received. Itwas resolved that they be -acceded to upon the usual conditions.

Finance.—Accounts were passed for payment as follows:—General account, £193 5/4; waterworks account, £96 14/4.

Street Works Committee.—The Streets and Works Committee recommended, inter alia. (1) that the Council at its cost lay a 4in_ water main down O'Neill's Point-road, Mr. Morrison to pa y3 per cent interest on twothirds of £700 (foreman of works estimate of whole cost), paid In advance each, year on actual balance at of year; (2) that the_ foreman of works prepare an estimate of cost of forming pHth, nine feet 'wide, to to the lower end of Mr. Williamson's picket fence;' Rutland-road, and upon him paying half the cost, the work be done.
