IN THE NEW HEBRIDES.
HUGE TIDAL WAVE. NOUMEA, April 5. The steamer Pacifique, which arrived to-day, communicated at Bea, on the 3rd inst., with the steamer St. Louis, en route from Vila (New Hebrides) to Sydney. The latter reported that on March 29 a terrific cyclone passed over the islands from the south-east, causing great destruction to shipping, plantations and other property. A huge tidal wave swept over Teouma, carrying buildings and crops away. The Government buildings were blown down at Vila, and several schooners and the Government yacht Onioni cast ashore. The last-named has been refloated.
When the St. Louis left no news had arrived from the other islands.
