FRAUDS ON THE CUSTOMS.
EVADED DUTIES. A HEAVY DEMAND. NEW YORK, April 3. The Collector of Customs at New York has ordered the American Sugar Refining Company to pay 1,239,000 dollars, as representing duties evaded between the years 1901 and 1907 by means of false weights.
The Government is claiming a further million dollars on imports prior to 1901.
