The following cable has been received from the High Commissioner, dated April 3rd;— Mutton.—The market continues dull, and large quantities have been put ■in -store. Large shipments are expected. Canterbury mutton is quoted at 3Jd; North Island,. 2Jd.

Lamb.—The market is depressed, although there is a better demand at the present low prices, on account of Easter. Current quotations are: Canterbury lamb, 4 5-Sd; other than Canterbury, 4sd; Australian, 3Jd.

Beef.—There is a better demand. Hindquarters are quoted at 3 1-Sd. and forequarters at 2id.

Butter.—The market is dull. Large buyers have withdrawn from the market, and prices have declined, some holders forcing sales. There is a considerable quantity of butter now arriving, and being placed in cold store. Buyers express dissatisfaction with New Zealand butter this season, on account of increased moisture. Current quotations are: Choicest New Zealand, 08/; Australian, 96/; Danish, 99/; Argentine, 97/; Siberian, 98/.

Cheese.—The market .Is quiet but firm. White makes are quoted at 61/; coloured, 64/.

. Hemp.—The market ls qplet, but rather steadier. The stock held ln London amounts to 210 tons. Current quotations are: Good fair grade on spot, £23 5/; fair grade oo spot, £21 10/; fair current Manila on spot, £23; April to June shipments of good fair grade, £23; fair grade, £21; fair current Manila. £21. Last week's Manila output amounted to 22,000 bales. Cocksfoot Seed. —The market Is quiet, and buyers are not keen to do business. Bright clean 171b seed is quoted at 80/. Silver: 23 7-16 d. Tin Plates: 1 C. Coke, 12/3; 1 C. Charcoal, 13/3. Wire Netting: Quoted at 60 per cent, and 21 per cent off list.
